Trojan Women: Reimagined
Fall 2024
Trojan Women: Reimagined was a semester-long project in which a group of seven writers met once a week to create an adaptation to Euripidies' Trojan Women. Our process started with reading and discussing Trojan Women. We dove into the themes, the mythology of the characters and the Trojan War, and how the play connects today. After that, the writers were broken into groups and completed some writing exercises that helped generate more ideas to the final project. During these writing exercises, we gravitated towards the idea of following the Trojan Women during the different stages of the war - before it began, 7-8 years into the battle, and after when Troy fell. Starting mid-October, we worked hard to complete a 45-minute adaptation. The final presentation of this project was in the form of a staged reading.

Before starting this project, I was nervous about how this project would go. My main worry was if the group would work well together. The key element I wanted to focus on for this project was fostering a creative safe environment. Writing can be very vulnerable and I wanted to make sure that everyone felt comfortable. I believe that I achieved in helping foster this environment which helped the writing process immensely. I am so proud of my and the Trojan Women ensemble's work. I learned a lot about how to organize a group playwriting project, organize and create meeting agendas, and build on my leadership skills.
